Trust you can verify, not just believe

Every promise on this page is enforced by how the platform is built, not by our goodwill.

What the Verified Vendor badge means

When you see the badge on a business profile or contribution page, three specific things are true:

  1. 1.It is a licensed business. We confirm the business exists, operates in the category it claims, and holds the licences its province requires.
  2. 2.Its identity was verified through payment onboarding. The business set up its own payment account, which requires government identity checks and banking in the business's name.
  3. 3.Payments can go only to that business. Contribution pages under this badge cannot route money anywhere else. Not to an organizer, not to a family member, not to us.

The obituary scam, and why it cannot happen here

Within hours of an obituary being published, scammers copy the name and photo into fake fundraising campaigns. Grieving communities give generously, and the money disappears. It is one of the cruellest common frauds on the internet, and ordinary fundraising platforms cannot prevent it because anyone can open a campaign about anyone.

On VeriGiving, a page can only exist for the verified business actually providing the service, from its actual invoice. There is nothing for a scammer to create. Families can tell their community plainly: the page linked from the business is the only official one.

Where your money goes, precisely

When you contribute, your card is charged by the business's own payment account, with our payments partner, the same payment infrastructure used by millions of businesses. VeriGiving is not in the flow of funds. We cannot hold, delay, redirect, or lose your money, because it never passes through us.

Your receipt names the business and the service. The page shows a live total. When the invoice is settled, you are told. Collection stops at exactly 100 percent of the invoice, so no excess is ever collected and no one has to decide what to do with it.

Our commitments

  • · We never hold, receive, or direct contributor funds.
  • · We never onboard an individual as a payee. Businesses only.
  • · Every page is anchored to a real invoice, and collection stops when it is covered.
  • · We use the words that are true: contributions and payments, never donations, and no tax receipts are implied.
  • · We never ask contributors for a tip, and we never add a fee at checkout.
  • · Families are never charged to start a page, share it, or split a bill.
  • · Our only fee is the flat 1.5 percent paid by the business, published openly.
  • · Your personal information is handled under Canadian privacy law.
